Sextet op. 48 / Quintet op. 77

Album by Antonín Dvořák & Wiener Oktett

Sextet Op. 48 and Quintet Op. 77 are chamber music compositions by Antonín Dvořák, composed in 1878 and 1875 respectively. Both rooted in the Romantic tradition, they feature lyrical melodies, rich interplay between strings and winds and use of Bohemian folk-influenced rhythms and modes, and they are representative of Dvořák's chamber output, showing how he integrated folk elements into classical forms as he moved towards larger-scale compositions.
