Haydn: Symphonies Nos. 99 & 101 'The Clock'
Album by Joseph Haydn & Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest & Nikolaus Harnoncourt
Haydn: Symphonies Nos. 99 & 101 is a pair of orchestral symphonies by Joseph Haydn, composed in 1793–1794 as part of his late 'London' symphonies. They exemplify Haydn's mature Classical idiom, with balanced sonata forms, distinctive rhythmic character and inventive wind writing, and they sit within his late-period orchestral output where their formal clarity and orchestral colour contributed to the evolution of the symphony in the late 18th century.
