Symphony no. 2
Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Симфонический оркестр Мариинского театра & Valery Gergiev
Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27, is the second symphony by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, completed in 1907. The work exemplifies late-Romantic symphonic writing with expansive, sweeping melodies, lush orchestration and broad formal spans, and it occupies a key place in Rachmaninoff's output as a major large-scale work written after the difficulties surrounding his earlier symphonic efforts.
