String Quartet no. 1 "Kreutzer" / String Quartet no. 2 "Intimate Letters"
Album by Leoš Janáček & Pražák Quartet & Václav Remeš & Sachiko Kayahara
This album pairs two late chamber works for string quartet by Czech composer Leoš Janáček, composed in 1923 and 1928. Musically they combine speech-inflected, folk-tinged melodies with bold harmonic shifts, intricate rhythms and intense emotional contrasts, marking some of Janáček's most mature chamber writing and reflecting his late-career turn towards personal, autobiographical expression.
