Tosca is an opera in three acts by the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, first performed in 1900. The work is in the verismo tradition, with dramatic vocal writing, rich orchestral colour and a strong focus on theatrical realism, and it was written during the mature period of Puccini's career where it joined the core Italian operatic repertory.
