Cello Concertos
Album by Edward Elgar & Witold Lutosławski & Pieter Wispelwey & Radio Filharmonisch Orkest & Jac van Steen
The Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 is a concerto by English composer Edward Elgar, composed in 1919. The work features a lyrical, elegiac cello solo set against rich late-Romantic orchestration with autumnal harmonies and relatively spare textures, and it occupies a notable place in Elgar's late-career output as a response to the First World War and an example of early 20th-century British orchestral composition.
