Dido and Aeneas is a short Baroque opera by the English composer Henry Purcell, composed around 1689. The work features expressive arias, choral writing and continuo-accompanied recitative characteristic of late 17th-century English Baroque, and is notable as one of the earliest surviving English operas that helped shape the country's operatic and stage music traditions.
