Symphonies nos. 1 & 2

Album by Johannes Brahms & Academy of St Martin in the Fields & Sir Neville Marriner

Symphonies nos. 1 & 2 are the first and second symphonies by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed in 1876 and 1877. Rooted in the late Romantic symphonic tradition, they combine classical sonata forms with sweeping melodic lines, dense harmonic writing and varied orchestral textures, marking a consolidation of Brahms's symphonic voice after years of compositional development and dialogue with earlier classical models.
