The Nutcracker Suite / Swan Lake Suite
Album by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Yuri Simonov
The Nutcracker Suite and the Swan Lake Suite are orchestral suites by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed in 1892 and 1876 respectively. Both suites distil material from their parent ballets into concise orchestral movements characterised by Romantic-era melodic lyricism, colourful orchestration and dance-derived rhythms, and they occupy important positions in Tchaikovsky's output and the development of late-19th-century ballet repertoire.
