El Niño
Album by John Adams & Lorraine Hunt Lieberson & Dawn Upshaw & Willard White & Kent Nagano
El Niño is a nativity oratorio by American composer John Adams, first performed in 2000. The work blends Adams's post-minimalist orchestral language with large-scale choral and solo vocal writing, drawing on a mix of biblical and poetic texts and incorporating elements from early chant through jazz-inflected and contemporary harmonic idioms, and it represents a continuation of his engagement with dramatic vocal forms at the turn of the 21st century.
