Symphony No. 9 is the ninth symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, completed and first performed in 1824. The work is a large-scale Romantic-era symphony that employs full orchestra together with vocal soloists and chorus in its final movement, combines broad lyrical themes with contrapuntal writing and wide dynamic contrasts, and was completed near the end of Beethoven's life as part of his late-period output.
