War Requiem, op. 66
Album by Benjamin Britten & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus & Robert Shaw
War Requiem, Op. 66 is a large-scale choral and orchestral composition by the English composer Benjamin Britten, completed and first performed in 1962. Combining the traditional Latin Requiem Mass with English poetry, the work juxtaposes soloists, chorus and orchestra to produce a dense, often dissonant yet tonal sound world and represents Britten's mid-career engagement with themes of war and remembrance.
