The Planets
Album by Gustav Holst & Melbourne Symphony Orchestra & José Serebrier
The Planets is an orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916 and first performed in 1918. Written for large orchestra, it explores a range of moods through bold brass, expansive strings, colourful orchestration and unorthodox rhythms, and it occupies a recognised position in early 20th-century British music for its influence on later orchestral writing and film scoring.
