Piano Concerto no. 5 / Choral Fantasy
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Maurizio Pollini & Berliner Philharmoniker & Karl Böhm & Claudio Abbado
Piano Concerto No. 5 and the Choral Fantasy are concert works by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1809 and 1808 respectively. The concerto is a grand, late-Classical/early-Romantic work that combines expansive orchestral textures with demanding piano writing, and the Choral Fantasy blends piano, orchestra and chorus in a hybrid form that anticipates Beethoven's later use of vocal forces, placing both pieces as markers in his middle-period development.
