Sonatas for Cello and Piano
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Franz Schubert & Arto Noras & Tapani Valsta
Sonatas for Cello and Piano is a collection of two sonatas by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1934 and 1973. They range from an early, more lyrical modernist language to a later, austere late-period style that is marked by concise motifs and spare harmonies, and they occur at the opening and closing points of Shostakovich's chamber output and show the change in his musical language over his career.
