Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. Musically it expands late-Romantic orchestral forces and weaves in adapted song material and folk-like motifs, marking Mahler's emergence as a symphonist and pointing towards the more expansive, programme-driven works of his later career.
