Symphony no. 4 in G major

Album by Gustav Mahler & Reri Grist & New York Philharmonic & Leonard Bernstein

Symphony No. 4 in G major is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed and first performed in 1901. The work blends late-Romantic orchestral colours with lighter, song-like themes and clearer diatonic harmony than some of his larger symphonies, and it concludes with a vocal finale that presents a folklike, childlike perspective, placing it as a comparatively restrained and intimate entry in Mahler's symphonic catalogue.
First released: 17th November 1992
