Symphonies 5 & 7
Album by Jean Sibelius & Boston Symphony Orchestra & Sir Colin Davis
Symphonies Nos. 5 and 7 are orchestral works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed in 1915 (No. 5, revised 1919) and 1924 respectively. They exemplify Sibelius's mature late-Romantic to early-modern style through economy of material, evolving motivic development and a move towards more concentrated forms, with the Fifth representing a culmination of his earlier symphonic practice and the Seventh serving as his final single-movement symphonic statement.
