Symphony no. 4 "The Inextinguishable" / Symphony no. 5
Album by Carl Nielsen & DR SymfoniOrkestret & Michael Schønwandt
Symphony No. 4 "The Inextinguishable" and Symphony No. 5 are orchestral works by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, completed in 1916 and 1922 respectively. Both symphonies mark important steps in Nielsen's symphonic development and in early 20th-century orchestral writing, with the Fourth emphasising elemental conflict and rhythmic drive while the Fifth interrogates tonality and form through expansive structure and bold orchestration.
