Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. The large-scale orchestral work features dramatic contrasts, expansive brass and string writing, a prominent trumpet fanfare and a sustained slow movement, and it marks a turning point in Mahler's output as he moved away from the vocal elements of his earlier symphonies toward a more purely instrumental architecture.
