Octet, op. 20 / String Quartet, op. 80
Album by Felix Mendelssohn & Emerson String Quartet
Octet, Op. 20 and String Quartet, Op. 80 are chamber music works by Felix Mendelssohn, composed in 1825 and 1847 respectively. The Octet is an early, exuberant example of Romantic chamber writing that expands textures and interplay among eight strings, while the Quartet, written late in his life, adopts a darker, more introspective tone that reflects his mature harmonic language and serves as a closing statement in his chamber output.
