Symphony No. 7 'Leningrad'

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Valery Gergiev & Симфонический оркестр Мариинского театра

Symphony No. 7 in C major, 'Leningrad', is the seventh symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and first performed in 1942. The large-scale orchestral work combines expansive orchestration, march-like rhythms and contrasting lyrical episodes that reflect the wartime context, and it occupies a central place in Shostakovich's wartime output and the twentieth-century symphonic repertoire.
