Symphony No. 4

Album by Gustav Mahler & Philharmonia Orchestra & Benjamin Zander & Camilla Tilling

Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1901. The piece, rooted in the late-Romantic tradition, employs a comparatively lighter orchestration and transparent textures culminating in a soprano part in the final movement, and it occupies a transitional place in Mahler's output between his expansive early symphonies and the more condensed, modernist works that followed.
