Symphony No. 1 is a symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888 and first performed in 1889. The work blends late-Romantic orchestral forces with folk-inspired motifs, expansive structures and programme-influenced movements, occupying an early position in Mahler's symphonic output as he developed his large-scale, emotionally wide-ranging approach to the genre.
