The Fringes of the Fleet
Album by Edward Elgar & Roderick Williams & Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra & Tom Higgins
The Fringes of the Fleet is a song-cycle by English composer Edward Elgar, composed in 1917. It comprises vocal settings of wartime verse for voice with orchestral accompaniment, employing lyrical lines, march-like rhythms and evocative orchestral colour to convey naval and home-front themes, and it represents Elgar's engagement with topical, accessible vocal music during World War I alongside his larger orchestral works.
