Album by Henry Purcell & Tatiana Troyanos & Felicity Palmer & Richard Stilwell & English Chamber Choir & English Chamber Orchestra & Raymond Leppard
Dido and Aeneas is a chamber opera by the English composer Henry Purcell, first performed around 1689. The work exemplifies English Baroque opera with concentrated vocal writing, continuo-based accompaniment and dance-influenced passages, and it is significant as one of the earliest English-language operas that helped shape theatre music in late 17th-century England.
