English Country Dances

Album by John Playford & David Douglass & Andrew Lawrence‐King & Paul O’Dette

English Country Dances is a collection of English country dance tunes compiled by John Playford, first published in 1651. The collection documents melodies and dance instructions characteristic of mid-17th-century social dance and played a key role in preserving and standardising the English country dance repertoire for subsequent musicians and dancers.
