Symphony no. 5 in C-sharp minor
Album by Gustav Mahler & Melbourne Symphony Orchestra & Markus Stenz
Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. The large-scale orchestral work is written in five movements and juxtaposes powerful brass fanfares, dense string writing and contrapuntal textures with intimate, lyrical passages, marking a move in Mahler's output toward purely instrumental symphonic writing and expanding his orchestral palette during a pivotal period in his career.
