Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, known as the 'Pastoral', is the sixth symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed and premiered in 1808. Musically it exemplifies Beethoven's middle-period turn towards vivid orchestral expression and programme-style symphonic writing, using pastoral motifs, strong rhythmic gestures and varied orchestral colour across episodic movements to evoke rural scenes and nature.
