Symphonies 1 & 2
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Riccardo Chailly & Gewandhausorchester Leipzig
Symphonies Nos. 1 and 2 are the first two symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed and premiered in 1800 and 1803 respectively. These orchestral works sit at the end of the Classical era and on the cusp of the Romantic, showing influence from Haydn and Mozart while beginning to expand classical forms through greater dynamic contrast, inventive orchestration and adventurous harmonic turns that foreshadow Beethoven's later symphonic writing.
