Der Abschied is the final movement of Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, completed in 1909. The music is late-Romantic art-song material with expansive orchestral sonorities, long austere vocal lines and slow, contemplative passages, and it closes Mahler's work in the orchestral-song form near the end of his career.
