Sheherazade / The Tale of Tsar Saltan (Suite)

Album by Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky‐Korsakov & Seattle Symphony & Gerard Schwarz

Sheherazade / The Tale of Tsar Saltan (Suite) is a recording of orchestral works by Russian composer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, with Sheherazade composed in 1888 and the Saltan suite drawn from his 1900 opera. Both pieces exemplify late Romantic orchestration, characterised by colourful orchestral palette, virtuosic string and wind writing and folkloric motifs, and they occupy a prominent place in Rimsky-Korsakov's output and the Russian orchestral tradition.
