Mahler - Sinfornia N. 5

Album by Gustav Mahler & Claudio Abbado & Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902 and premiered in 1904. The five-movement orchestral work juxtaposes a sombre, brass-driven funeral march with expansive lyrical passages and a vigorous finale, demonstrating Mahler's increasing emphasis on complex counterpoint, diverse orchestral colour and emotional range within the late-Romantic symphonic tradition.
First released: 1989
