Symphonies: No. 2, op. 16 "The Four Temperaments" / No. 3, op. 27 "Sinfonia espansiva"
Album by Carl Nielsen & Kungliga Filharmonikerna & Gennadi Nikolayevich Rozhdestvensky
Symphonies No. 2, op. 16 and No. 3, op. 27 are orchestral works by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, completed in 1902 and 1911 respectively. They show Nielsen's move from late-Romantic harmony toward a more personal modern language, with expanded orchestration, striking brass and woodwind colours and increased rhythmic drive, and they were written during a period when he consolidated his symphonic voice between his earlier influences and later output.

First released: 1994
