War and Peace

War and Peace is an opera by Sergei Prokofiev, composed between 1942 and 1943 and first staged in 1946. The work combines large-scale orchestral and choral writing with intimate dramatic scenes, drawing on Russian melodic and harmonic idioms and reflecting the wartime context, and it is part of Prokofiev's later output that emphasises a more expansive, theatrical synthesis of his style.
