Symphony no. 5 in C-sharp minor

Album by Gustav Mahler & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Frank Shipway

Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1901–1902 and completed in 1902. Scored for a large orchestra, the work traverses dramatic contrasts from a funeral-march opening through complex contrapuntal textures to a slow central movement for strings and harp, and it marks Mahler's shift towards wholly instrumental symphonic writing and a new breadth in his orchestral language.
