Messiah is an English-language oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work combines Baroque choral writing and orchestral accompaniment with scriptural texts to alternate dramatic, reflective and celebratory passages, and it occupies a central place in Handel's output and in the development of the choral-orchestral repertoire.
