Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite for solo piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, composed in 1874. The work is a programme piece rooted in Romantic-era and Russian nationalist idioms, characterised by vivid pictorial writing that alternates declamatory, march-like gestures with reflective, modal passages, and it occupies an important place in Mussorgsky's late output and in the repertoire through its frequent orchestral reworkings.
