Symphonies Nos. 40, 28 & 31
Album by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Capella Istropolitana & Barry Wordsworth
Symphonies Nos. 40, 28 and 31 is a collection of orchestral works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed between 1774 and 1788. Musically the set spans Mozart's early and middle symphonic practice in the Classical era: the earlier work uses lighter galant textures while the later work uses increased harmonic tension, darker minor-mode passages and denser orchestration, and the collection documents the development of his symphonic language.

First released: 1988
