Symphony No. 6 in A minor & Symphony No. 9 in D
Album by Gustav Mahler & Leonard Bernstein & New York Philharmonic
Symphony No. 6 in A minor and Symphony No. 9 in D are orchestral works by Gustav Mahler, composed in 1903–1904 and 1909–1910 respectively. Both exemplify late-Romantic orchestral writing: the Sixth features driving rhythms, dramatic climaxes and stark contrasts, while the Ninth presents more introspective, autumnal textures, a pared-down orchestral palette and a harmonic language that helped pave the way to early 20th-century modernism.
