Chants d'Auvergne
Album by Joseph Canteloube & Arleen Augér & English Chamber Orchestra & Yan Pascal Tortelier
Chants d'Auvergne is a song cycle of folk song arrangements for soprano and orchestra by French composer Joseph Canteloube, composed and published in several series between 1923 and 1930. Drawing on Auvergnat regional melodies and dialects, the music features lush orchestral colours, modal harmonies and expressive vocal lines, and it occupies a prominent place in Canteloube's output and in early 20th-century French efforts to preserve regional folk traditions.
