Miserere
Album by Gregorio Allegri & Cambridge Choir of King’s College & Stephen Cleobury
Miserere is a choral motet by Italian composer Gregorio Allegri, composed in the 1630s for use in services at the Sistine Chapel. The work sets Psalm 51 in a restrained, stile antico idiom characterised by alternating chant-like passages and richly textured polyphony, and it occupies an important place in the history of Roman Catholic liturgical music and in Allegri's catalogue.
