Orphée aux enfers

Album by Jacques Offenbach & Mady Mesplé & Jane Rhodes & Michel Sénéchal & Charles Burles & Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse & Chœur du Capitole de Toulouse & Michel Plasson

Orphée aux enfers is an operetta by Jacques Offenbach, first performed in 1858. A satirical take on the Orpheus myth that lampoons contemporary society, it features buoyant melodies, brisk orchestration, lively choruses and dance-like rhythms, and helped establish Offenbach's reputation while shaping the development of French operetta.
