Symphony no. 11 “The Year 1905”
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & BBC Symphony Orchestra & Sir John Pritchard
Symphony No. 11 "The Year 1905" is the eleventh symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed and premiered in 1957. The work is a large-scale orchestral, programme-driven symphony that uses broadly tonal language coloured by stark modernist dissonances, march-like gestures and evocative orchestral tableaux to depict the events of 1905, and it occupies a publicly oriented, politically engaged place in Shostakovich's mid-career output.
