Album by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky & Wiener Philharmoniker & Gustavo Dudamel
Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite for solo piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, composed in 1874. The work consists of a sequence of contrasting character pieces inspired by visual art, notable for its modal harmonies, striking rhythmic gestures and the vivid orchestral colours realised in later orchestrations, and it occupies a significant place in Mussorgsky's output and in the development of late Romantic Russian music.
