Symphony no. 7 "Leningrad"
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra & Vasily Petrenko
Symphony No. 7 'Leningrad' is the seventh symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and premiered in 1942. The work is a large-scale orchestral symphony combining expansive, often march-like themes, dramatic contrasts and programme associations with the siege of Leningrad, and it represents one of Shostakovich's principal wartime compositions and a major example of mid-20th-century symphonic writing.
