Symphonies Nos. 2, 3
Album by Jean Sibelius & Konzerthausorchester Berlin & Kurt Sanderling
Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3 are orchestral works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed in 1902 and 1907 respectively. They show a shift from the lush late-Romantic orchestration and expansive form of the earlier work to a leaner, more economical use of themes and texture in the later work, and they occupy a transitional place in Sibelius's career between his national Romantic phase and a move toward a more condensed symphonic style.
