Symphony no. 1
Album by Johannes Brahms & Staatskapelle Dresden & Kurt Sanderling
Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed in 1876. The work employs large-scale Classical forms infused with Romantic orchestral colour, characterised by expansive thematic development, dense harmonic textures and dramatic climaxes, and represents the culmination of Brahms's long gestation as a symphonist and a bridge between Classical models and late 19th-century Romantic orchestral practice.
