Piano Concerto no. 5 "Emperor"

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Alexis Weissenberg & Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan

Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, nicknamed 'Emperor', is the fifth piano concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1809. Rooted in the Classical concerto tradition, the work expands orchestral forces and solo writing with grand gestures, a sweeping lyrical slow movement and a finale that emphasises the integration of virtuosity and orchestral colour, placing it within Beethoven's mature output during the Napoleonic era.
