Polonaises
Album by Fryderyk Chopin & Arthur Rubinstein
Polonaises are a set of solo piano compositions by Frédéric Chopin, composed between 1826 and 1846. They transform the traditional Polish dance into a Romantic piano idiom, characterised by triple-time rhythms with march-like accents, lyrical melodies, chromatic harmonies and virtuosic figurations, and they occupy an important place in Chopin's output as expressions of his engagement with national forms and his development of piano technique.
